Home / User Onboarding / What are some best tips to improve user onboarding for SaaS?

SaaS is the first target customer for user onboarding companies since their dashboards are mostly unique and complex. They need to design a beautiful onboarding process to show the value created for users to retain them and boost retention rate.

I want to share my tips to improve user onboarding for SaaS.

How to improve user onboarding for SaaS?

#1- Define your existing onboarding problems

Nobody can solve your problem unless you define them, right? First of all, you need to identify your all difficulties about the onboarding. You can use a feedback tool like Hotjar or make a usability test with real users. Don’t start to design user onboarding base on what you think. Never forget that you’re not your users!

#2- Create onboarding guides that can be reached on-demand

Honestly, at the beginning of our UserGuiding, we didn’t know how reusable guides are important. We showed our all guides to the users at the first visit to the targeted page. Our completion rates were low.

When we put our guides on Learn buttons on the top our panel, we realized completion rates increased at the rate of 50–60%. You shouldn’t bother the users, give them an opportunity to have your help when they need it.

#3- Track your onboarding guides’ performance regularly

User onboarding is not a thing; it’s a process. You should track the guides and steps on a regular basis to improve them. Sometimes, you need to add some guides to familiarize your product better. Sometimes, you need to remove a couple of steps to make your onboarding shorter and more effective.
