What does Gainsight PX do?

Gainsight is a comprehensive platform for improving each aspect of your UX and managing your growth. They have 5 different products that aim to help with different parts of business management.

The product we will evaluate in this article is Gainsight Product Experience, a tool to improve your user onboarding with product walkthroughs.

The tool has integrations to many platforms and also provides you with a way to collect and act on user feedback.

However, that’s pretty much all you can do with the product. The features are very limited and there are more affordable products that do more than Gainsight PX does.

Gainsight PX Reviews

Pros: We love that we can look into how and how often our customers are using various features of our product. We just released a new feature and can already see that it’s been super popular with our customers – Gainsight allowed us to see that!

Cons: I dislike the difficulty of needing to know the basics of coding to set up in-app engagements, which required me (the marketing director) to use a lot of our development team’s time. Still, it was not difficult overall, and well built.

Appcues is one of the pioneers of no-code user onboarding and has been around for a very long time.

It helps you create a better user experience with various features to onboard users and train them in-app.

The pricing is more expensive than the market average, and to use the tool and integrate it right away you need a technical background. Otherwise, it might take you a couple days to figure out such a comprehensive tool.

Appcues Pricing

Among all onboarding tools, Appcues is one of the expensive ones. Their pricing starts from $249/month for Essentials package, and goes up to $879/month for the Growth package.

Appcues Reviews

Pros: Amazing, the support we get is great, The rep is always there to offer us help when we need it.

Cons: Appcues has lots of support articles, however they are almost so numerous that it was hard to find simple onboarding documentation that we found useful.

WalkMe is an onboarding solution that has many SaaS enterprises as customers, with over 10 years of experience on the market.

Tech giants such as Microsoft, PayPal, Cisco, and many other trust WalkMe to handle training their employees and users.

If you have someone you can spare to master WalkMe, as it is a complex and comprehensive product, and have the budget to spend on it, WalkMe is a great alternative.

However, if you are looking for a more affordable and simpler tool, you must pass on WalkMe.

WalkMe Pricing

Although pricing of WalkMe is unknown and you have to get a custom price for your business, the charges are usually above market average.

WalkMe Reviews

Pros: How innovative and smart it is, it makes our relationship with our customers so much easier and fluid, so many great tools, and functionalities, it has very to no little limitations on what you can do.

Cons: It is a very robust platform, so learning all the functionality takes time. Unless you’re a javascript and CSS pro, you will probably struggle with getting the jQuery selectors right and the CSS exactly how you want the experience to look and feel. The out-of-the-box features will get you 90% of the way there though.

Inline Manual

Inline Manual offers numerous features such as product tours, tooltips, hotspots, and widgets; which all can be used to improve UX.

Although it has various integrations to different popular platforms that create great combinations, current reviews suggest that the tool can be a bit tricky to use and doesn’t always work with full efficiency.

Inline Manual Pricing

For 250 MAU, Inline Manual charges $158/month, then the price increases with your MAU.

Inline Manual Reviews

Pros: The features offered by Inline Manual are truly equivalent to other very pricy and restraining tools. Inline Manual allows to customize well enough to create a tool that serves your own corporate needs.

Cons: Such an app requires a bit of dedication and effort to be set up as they are embedded in your own platform. You need to understand how it works (and also how your own app behaves)

Pendo is a 3rd-party user onboarding platform for SaaS businesses that is focused on user onboarding, in-app training, and feature adoption.

It also provides you with the tools to survey your users.

However, the interface is a bit hard to figure out and the integration takes time if you don’t have any prior technical knowledge.

gainsight px vs pendo

Pendo Pricing

Pendo does not have a pre-set pricing that is public, they offer custom plans for each customer.

Pendo Reviews

Pros: Started seeing results improving feature adoption with help of Pendo. As a Product Manager, I’ve tried different tools and techniques in past, but Pendo showed the best results so far.

Cons: My biggest complaint is that the interface for customizing the guide center is hard to use and there is limited information on how to customize this.

Whatfix is another widely-used third-party user onboarding tool to assist users in-app with product tours, tooltips, and feature highlights.

It can be a decent alternative to Pendo, but you should keep in mind that the product has its downsides too. The analytics feature is inferior to its competitors, pricing is above the market average, and it can be hard to figure out the product at first.

Whatfix Pricing

To get a price to Whatfix, you need to contact them; as they don’t provide us with a fixed pricing. Yet it is known that they charge above the market average.

Whatfix Reviews

“The Whatfix support page is incredibly helpful and straightforward and the customer service is superb.”

“The price is a little high. It lacks analytical features. Some features are not easy to configure.”

Bootstrap Tour

Bootstrap Tour is an open-source user onboarding library that you can create product tours with for free.

It can be perfect for a business that has no budget to invest in a third-party user onboarding tool but keep in mind that a developer must oversee the process of creating onboarding elements with Bootstrap Tour.

Also, customization and the variety of the onboarding elements is highly limited.

Intro.js is another widely-used open source library for creating product tours and feature introductions.

It is free until commercial use and preferable by those who seek a simple onboarding that they can spare a developer to create.

Since it is an open-source solution, it requires a high amount of coding experience and technical knowledge to create and implement.

The library only has a single ready-to-use theme for free, so the customization options are limited.

Intro.js also has a limited number of features you can use to improve user onboarding so if you are looking to step your game up, it will not be enough.

gainsight px vs intro.js

Intro.js Pricing

Intro.js is free as long as you don’t use it for commercial products. When that is the case however, you need to get a Starter license for $9.99 which offers no official support or a Business license for $29.99 with support and code review.

Intro.js Reviews

Pros: I really like the Intro.js plugin because documentation is straightforward and easy to understand. This can work in almost any webpage using jQuery as an included library.

Cons: The library is definitely open source and free software, but at the same time if I want to use it for commercial use it seems I need to pay a license fee. Why is this required if the code is open source?
